Has the booking form SMS consent checkbox behavior changed for Mobile phone fields?

Hi,

I have a question about recent SMS booking form behavior.

In our booking form, when Mobile phone is enabled for the phone number field, a consent message now appears, such as:

I would like to receive scheduling-related text messages about this booking.

If I disable Mobile phone, this consent text no longer appears.

What is confusing is that I believe this did not happen before. In the past, even when Mobile phone was enabled, I do not think this SMS opt-in / opt-out style checkbox or consent text was shown automatically.

So I would like to ask:

  1. Has this behavior changed recently?

  2. Does this now apply to standard SMS as well, or only to Enhanced SMS?

  3. If it is a recent change, when was it introduced?

  4. Is there any official documentation or release note about this behavior?

From the help articles, it looks like for standard SMS the opt-in checkbox used to be something users added manually, while the automatic checkbox is described in the terms for Enhanced SMS. That is why I am not sure whether this is an intended product change or something account-specific.

Thanks in advance.

@nao We sent out an email on March 20th with some information. Due to changing requirements for sending SMS we had to add a STOP message and also the double opt-in for any booking page that is sending SMS notifications.

@Ben

Thank you for your reply.

I checked again and found the email you sent on March 20, so I understand the background now.

The explanation about the STOP message and the double opt-in requirement makes sense. That helped clarify why the SMS consent text started appearing on booking pages that send SMS notifications.

Thank you for the clarification.
